Donald A. Keefer, age 89, died Tuesday, December 22 at a local adult foster care home.
Private burial will be at Summerville Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center in La Grande.
Mr. Keefer was born July 4, 1920 in Imbler to Albert and Lana (Pieper) Keefer. As a young child the family moved to La Grande where Donald began school at Riveria. He graduated from La Grande High School with the class 1938. Mr. Keefer worked as a meat cutter for Adam Cyr, Eldridge Packing and later Hyde's Grocery from which he retired. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and worked as a cook for the Transportation Corps stationed in Alaska until he was honorably discharged as a Technician 4th grade.
Mr. Keefer attended Zion Lutheran Church in La Grande.
Survivors include his cousins, Verne Pieper of Island City; Bill Pieper of La Grande, Ladeska Pieper Bell of Washington state and there families; and other extended relatives.
Friends who wish may contribute to the Zion Lutheran Church memorial fund in Donald Keefer's memory.
