Donald Bruce Hepburn, 90, formerly of La Grande, died March 6 in Beaverton. A family graveside service is pending at this time.
Donald was born Feb. 5, 1921, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Don spent his early years growing up in Canada until moving with his parents to the Portland area. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1941 and went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad as a telegrapher. Don retired in May 1981 after working as a train dispatcher in both La Grande and Portland.
In 1943, he joined the U.S. Army and served in France and Germany until his discharge in 1946. Later that same year, he married Ruby Garnet Wallendar. They were together until her death in July 2006 just six weeks shy of their 60th wedding anniversary. Their first child, Donnie, died in 1949 at the age of 1.
Don is survived by his children, Bruce Hepburn and Mary Prescott (Donald) of Beaverton; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contributions go to The Employee Appreciation Fund at Hearthstone of Beaverton as a way of thanking them for their care of Don. The address is Hearthstone of Beaverton, 12520 SW Hart Rd., Beaverton 97008, Attn.: Duane Minor.
