Donald Eugene Emmons

November 14, 1935 — July 8, 2016

Donald Eugene Emmons, age 80, of La Grande died July 8, 2016 in Boise, Idaho. A memorial service will be held on Friday July, 15, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the La Grande First Baptist Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center.

Don was born on November 14, 1935, the son of Elmer and Esther (LaChance) Emmons in La Grande. He graduated from La Grande High School with the class of 1954. On October 29, 1955 he married Edith 'Gayle' Thomas in Weiser, Idaho. He worked as a mechanic for Gettings-Lynch Motor Company until 1968 when he went to work for Boise Cascade as a press operator. He retired from there in 2000. He then worked for Certified Personnel as a flagger until 2014 when he fully retired. Gayle preceded him in death on October 29, 2007.

Don was a member of the La Grande First Baptist Church and served on the Property Ministry Action Team. In his younger years he was a member of Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge, was a volunteer for the Island City Fire Department, served on Search and Rescue and served on the board of the Island City Cemetery. He loved his family and enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and loved to dance.

Survivors include his children, Tom and Brenda Emmons of Washougal, Washington, Faye and Jack Aldrich of Union and Kaye and Bruce Kirk of Buckley, Washington; seven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; companion, Kathy Rudd and her extended family; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by brothers, Orman and Leroy.
