Donald E. Miller

March 28, 1938 — February 10, 2005

Donald Edwin Miller, age 66 of Cove, died Thursday, February 10, 2005 at his home. A service will be held on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley with the Rev. Richard Thew officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Donald Edwin Miller was born on March 28, 1938, the son of Oscar Edwin and Jean Frances (Courtney) Miller in La Grande, Oregon. Donald attended schools in La Grande and as a youth worked for Mel's Service Station, the US Forest Service in their lookouts and later as a volunteer fireman. In May of 1968 Donald and his family moved to Spokane, Washington where he continued to work for El Paso Natural Gas Company and later would work for Washington Water Power Company which is now Avista Utilities. On September 19, 1982 Donald married Marie Kirkendall in Walla Walla, Washington. Together the couple lived in Spokane and later moved to Cove and after 30 years of service to Avista Utilities, Donald retired on August 1, 1997. He enjoyed playing and watching sports, hunting, fishing, camping, pack horses, rock landscaping which he was well known for, and spending his mornings with his local coffee group in Cove.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Miller of Cove, Oregon; children and their spouses, Donald Miller Jr. of Spokane, Washington, Doug and Jerri Miller and children, Logan, Lacee, Harmonee, and Hazen of Spokane, Washington, Lyndi and Dave Phifer and children, Luke, Kayli, Anna and John of Stanwood, Washington, Patrick and Minda Gruenhagen and children, Christina, and William of Mill Creek, Washington and Brent Gruenhagen of Spokane, Washington; sister and husband, Nancy and Gary Waldrop of Fort Myers, Florida; ten grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. His parents and one sister, Patricia Ann Miller all preceded him in death.
