Dick Snider, 77, of Island City died April 25. A celebration of life will begin at 1 pm Saturday at the First Christian Church, 901 Penn Avenue. Mr. Snider was born March 7, 1928, to Ray H. and Marion Faye Bellus Snider in La Grande. He graduated from La Grande High School in 1946, attended the University of Idaho and graduated from Eastern Oregon College. He married Carol Miller and taught school in Pendleton and a small town near Springfield. The couple were later divorced. He was a member of the ORegon State Curriculum Committee and the Lane County Teachers' Association. He contracted polio in 1959 and on October 2, 1966 he married Charlene Winn. He worked as a tutor and operated a small business for a while. He loved the mountains and displayed great courage in overcoming endless obstacles.
Survivors include his wife of Island City; children, David Snider of Portland, Arden Snider of Cove, Susuan Southwick of Forest Grove and Peggy Owens of Oregon City; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren and two sister, Marion Smith of Olympia, Washington and Phyllis Snider of Puyallup, Washington. Memorials may be made to an autism charity or to an education fund for Robby Snider.
