Dewy Mike Kleng Sr, age 86, of La Grande, died December 26, 2011 at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise, Idaho. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street in La Grande.
Dewy was born on September 10, 1925, the son of Dewy M. and Flora Audrey (Shuey) in Enterprise, Oregon. The family moved to Union County when he was three and they lived in Lower Perry, Upper Perry and Hilgard. He graduated from La Grande High School with the class of 1945. On July 3, 1947 he married Shirley Carman in Weiser, Idaho. He served with the United States Army. After his honorable discharge he worked at Paul Bunyons Car and Truck Repair for a year before going to work for Oregon Department of Transportation. He worked for them for 24 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the American Legion. He loved spending time with his family and playing with his great grandchildren. He also loved to hunt and ride his ATV.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Kleng of La Grande; sons, Dewy M. Kleng Jr. of La Grande and Stephen M. Kleng of Hermiston; brother, George Kleng; grandchildren, Brenda Andrews, Robert Kleng, Stephanie Post, Shirley Kleng; four step grandchildren; great grandchildren, Emily and Ryan Andrews, Austin and Sage Post, Justin Cox and Brenden and Jayden Kleng; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two infants; brothers, Nick and Lewie and sister, Martha.
Those who wish may make contributions in his memory to the Blue Mtn. Humane Association or the Shelter from the Storm in care of Daniels~Knopp.
