Deva A. Spikes, lifelong resident of Elgin, died Friday December 9, 2022 in La Grande at the age of 92.
Interment will be with her husband, Tommy, in Elgin Cemetery. A service will be announced at a later time by Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center of La Grande.
Deva Arlene was born on October 10, 1930 in La Grande, the daughter of Thomas “T.B” and Flora (Wickens) Clark. She was raised and educated in Elgin, graduating with the Elgin High School class of 1948. On November 24, 1951 she was married to Thomas “Tommy” Spikes in Weiser, Idaho.
Deva worked at ob’s Market and later for First State Bank of Elgin then U.S. Bank before she retired to care for her husband during his battle with cancer.
Deva was a member of the Women’s Service Club and the Pythian Sisters. Being a member of Alpine Meadows Golf Club in Enterprise, she loved playing golf. She enjoyed Bunco and Bingo and card games of all kinds until losing her eyesight made it impossible.
Surviving relatives include her children, Rod & Evelyn Spikes of Elgin, Denise Morris & Cliff Kirkley of Aurora, Colorado; granddaughters, Jennifer & Rick Paz of Kenai, Alaska, Misty & Isaac Lowe of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mindy Spikes of Shelton, Washington; grandsons, Colby & Tarale’ Spikes of Brooklyn, New York, Derek & Robin Morris of Kenai, Alaska, Chris & Michelle Spikes of Shelton, Washington, Jordan Spikes & Allie Huntley of Hillsboro, Oregon; sister, Helen Hargett of Toledo, Oregon; sister-in-law, Julianne Clark of Elgin; numerous nieces & nephews & other relatives & friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Tommy in 1995, son Tom, son-in-law Dave Morris and brother Dale Clark.
