Derrill Dean Chandler

April 7, 1935 — November 18, 2009

Derrill Dean Chandler, 74, of Elgin, died Nov. 18 at his residence. A celebration of life will begin at 11 a.m. Dec. 4 at the Elgin Community Center. A reception will immediately follow the services.

Derrill was born April 7, 1935, to Russell and Helen (Ohms) Chandler in Elgin. He spent his entire lifetime in this area, and retired from Boise Cascade as a knife grinder. He married Audrie Breshears Feb. 16, 1954, in Baker City. He was a member of the La Grande Gun Club, Cove Sportsman's Club, Union Gun Club and the Wallowa Sportsman's Club.

He was an avid trapshooter, winning several trophies. He loved archery hunting, steelhead fishing the Grande Ronde, mushrooming and picking huckleberries. He enjoyed traveling to Arizona each year to hunt javelinas.

He is survived by his wife, Audrie Breshears Chandler of Elgin; daughters, Deb Dyer of Elgin and Linda Dryden of Boise; brother, Virgil Chandler of Salem;. six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and daughters, Vickie Joe Chandler and Gail Joan Chaffee.
