Dena M. Bennett

Dena M. Bennett, age 94, formerly of La Grande, died Sunday, November 21, 2004 at her home in Vancouver, Washington. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Summerville Cemetery Chapel in Summerville with Roy Hills officiating. Interment will follow. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Dena M. Bennett was born on April 25, 1910, the daughter of Darius E. and Stella (Bechtel) Witty in Elgin, Oregon. She attended school in Elgin where she graduated with the class of 1928. In June of 1931 she married M. Dale Bennett in La Grande. Together the couple moved to Wallowa where they lived from 1931 until 1947. In 1947 they moved to Sutherlin, Oregon and then to Roseburg, Oregon in 1959 before finally settling back in Wallowa in 1976. Dale preceded her in death on September 30, 1991 and shortly thereafter Dena moved to La Grande. She loved quilting, playing cards and took a few boat cruises in her later years.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Alona "Skipper" and Bill Weaver of Vancouver, Washington; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; sisters and brothers Leona Bingaman, Audrey Hug, Luella Miller, Laurel Witty and Bessie Blumenstein, Charles Witty and Ervin Witty.
