Delbert Woodrow Howell

September 26, 1913 — December 11, 2002

Delbert Woodrow Howell, age 89, of La Grande and formerly of Rogue River, died Wednesday, December 11, 2002 at the Grande Ronde Hospital.


A celebration of life service will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2002 at Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Howell was born on September 26, 1913, the son of Clay and Alice (Taylor) Howell in Malin, Oregon. He attended schools in Ashland and served with the United States Army during World War II. In 1941 he married Mary Marvin in Reno, Nevada. He owned and operated a logging and a custom excavation business in Jackson County before moving to La Grande in 1979.


Mr. Howell had a passion for hunting and fishing. He packed into the Eagle Cap Mountains well into his 70's with his family. He was very close with his brother, sisters, children and grandchildren.


Survivors include his wife, Mary of La Grande; sons, Paul Howell of Rogue River and Stephen Howell of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Paul Howell, Jr., Sharleen Howell and Charlene Howell; sister, Ketura Riis of Rogue River and other relatives and friends. A brother, Earnest Howell and sisters, Pearl Bibby and Ruby Stevens preceded him in death.
