Dean Yeske

Dean Yeske, 71, of La Grande, died May 3 at a local nursing center. His graveside service will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Grandview Cemetery. A viewing for family and friends will run from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Loveland Funeral Chapel.

Dean was born May 7, 1939, in Pendleton with his twin brother, Larry, to Henry Frank and Marguerite Agnes (Ellis) Yeske. He was raised in La Grande and Baker, graduating from Baker High School.

After graduation, he joined the Navy in 1959 and served for four years, receiving an honorable discharge. Dean never married.

He was employed with Boise Cascade at the plywood plant in Elgin, where he retired with more than 20 years of service.

Dean was a collector. He enjoyed collecting antiques, including primitive furniture, dishware and antique cars. He was a coin collector and a stamp collector. Dean was well known for his lifelong efforts of helping people. He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church and a faithful volunteer at the Union County Senior Center.

He is survived by his brother, Larry and his wife, Sharon Yeske, of La Grande; and several nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Marguerite, and step-father, Glenn Miller.
