Darrell G. Turner

October 27, 1931 — September 7, 2010

Darrell G. Turner, 78, of Redmond, OR passed away Sept. 7 at his home. A service will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center in La Grande. Military honors and vault interment will follow at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Baker City. Viewing hours will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at Daniels~Knopp.

Darrell was born Oct. 27, 1931 to Loren and Edna (Gekeler) Turner in Baker City. He attended Union schools. Following high school, he participated in rodeos all over the Northwest until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War. After his military service, he married the love of his life, Laurie D. Mann. He managed several ranches and showed Registered Polled Herford cattle. Darrell and Laurie owned and operated western stores in Bend and La Grande. He was a sales representative for Circle Y Saddle Co. for 25 years. He worked for The Spotted Mule western store in Bend until he retired in 1997.

He was an avid sports fan, especially of rodeo. He loved hunting, the outdoors and traveling. He was quite the prankster and told the best stories.

Darrell is survived by his son, Monte (Jamie) of Redmond, his daughter, Shelley (Dennis) Bolyard of Twin Falls, ID, his sister, Marlene Turner of Union, 5 grandsons, 2 great grandchildren, 2 nephews, 1 niece and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his sister, Joy Beardsley.
