Darrell Marvin Muller

September 12, 1931 — October 7, 2009

Darrell Marvin Muller, 78, of La Grande, died Oct. 7 in La Grande after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease.

According to Darrell's wishes, he was cremated. A family graveside burial will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday in La Grande. A memorial service will be held at the Pendleton Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Monday.

Darrell was born Sept. 12, 1931, to Lloyd and Rose (Berger) Muller in Rapid City, S.D.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 in the Counter Intelligence Corp and was honorably discharged from the Reserves in 1961. He received his bachelor's degree from Eastern Oregon Normal School (now EOU) in 1953 and his master's degree from the University of Colorado.

He married Marilyn Rose Skeen June 14, 1953, in La Grande. They were married for 53 years.

Darrell retired from the Pendleton School District in 1988 after 30 years of service. He began teaching in the fifth grade at Hawthorn School and retired as the director of Pupil Personnel Services. He worked with special education students, parents and teachers.

Darrell served as a deacon and elder at the Pendleton Presbyterian Church and was a member of the United Methodist Church in La Grande at the time of his death. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Pendleton.

He and Marilyn moved to La Grande in 1997 to work with their cattle and enjoyed spending time at their mountain cabin and acreage up Ladd Canyon Creek.

Darrell is survived by sons and their spouses, Michael and Linda Muller of Echo, Steve and Cathy Muller of Pendleton and Richard Muller of

La Grande; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one sister, Carolyn Ferguson of Virginia Beach, Va.

He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grande Ronde Hospice.
