Darold Dean Dayley

June 20, 1935 — April 5, 2010

Darold Dean Dayley, age 74, of La Grande, died Monday, April 5, 2010 at the Grande Ronde Hospital after a long battle with heart disease and diabetes. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, April 12, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street in La Grande. Interment will be held later at the Oddfellows Cemetery in The Dalles.

Mr. Dayley was born on June 20, 1935, the son of Wesley and Berniece (Lauder) Dayley in Parker, Idaho. He attended both University of Idaho and Utah State earning a business degree. In 1955 he moved to The Dalles where he started his newspaper career as the Circulation Manager. In 1958 he was drafted into the Army and served his country until his honorable discharge in 1960. He returned to The Dalles and his returned to his position with the newspaper. In 1962 he married Dorothy Mae Mee. They were married until 1973.

Mr. Dayley then transferred to La Grande and was the Circulation Manager for The Observer until his retirement in 1997. He continued to work for The Observer delivering papers. Rain, sleet, snow, wind or shine Darold would always get the paper there on time. He touched everyone's lives with his generosity and kindness. He will be remembered for his friendly smile and wave.

Mr. Dayley was active with the Eagles Lodge and was a past President of the organization. He was also a member of the LDS Church. He served as an athletic sports official and enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking and snowmobiling.

Survivors include his children, Laura Elizondo of The Dalles, Lonnie and Clifford Dayley both of La Grande; niece, Bambi Salisbury of Mtn. Home, Idaho and other relatives and friends.

Those who wish may make contributions in his memory to the Eagles Lodge in care of Daniels~Knopp.
