Daniel Grossvener Mellish

June 8, 1919 — August 4, 2004

Daniel Grossvener Mellish, age 81, of Union and formerly of Umapine died August 4, 2004 at Mid-Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles. A memorial service will begin at 3pm Saturday a the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Umapine with Pastor Tim Gray officiating.

Mr. Mellish was born November 20, 1922, to John Edward and Jessie Wood Mellish in Letonia, Ohio. He moved to California in the late 1930's and entered the Merchant Marines in the early 1940's. He married his wife, Miriam, on May 15, 1946, in Carlsbad, California and lived in Vista and Escondido, both of California, Cave Junction, College Place, Washington and Umapine, before moving to Union to be near his daughter.

He was a member of the Tri-Cities Mid-Columbia Merchant Marines Chapter and the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He participated in Maranatha Mission projects in many foreign countries.

Survivors include his wife of Union; children, William Mellish of California, Daniel and Paul Mellish, both of Walla Walla, Michael "Jim" Mellish of Arizona, and Esther Miracle of Union; 21 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and three sisters. A son, John Bruce Mellish died in 1988.
