Dale Gordon Fisher, 75, of Metaline Falls, Wash., and formerly of Union County, died June 10 at his home. A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the American Legion Post 144, 220 E. Fourth Ave., Metaline Falls.
Dale was born Dec. 4, 1934, to Ary and Jessie Fisher in La Grande. He was raised in Cove.
In 1952, at the age of 17, Dale enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, serving in the South Pacific for 20 years. He served most notably on the USS Pictor, the USS Coral Sea and the USS Hornet. After his 20 years of military service, Dale worked an additional 20 years for the Washington State Department of Corrections as a food service manager. He was the first food service manager for the Twin Rivers Correctional Facility and the Special Offenders Correctional Facility in Monroe, Wash.
After retirement, he and his wife, Sheron, moved to their loved hideaway in Metaline Falls, where they worked their small farm and garden. Dale enjoyed raising chickens, watching the abundant wildlife that passed by their house and traveling. Dale was never without his favorite four-legged companion, Killer the chihuahua.
Dale is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sheron Fisher; sons, Vance, Keith, Ary and Dale Jr.; daughter, Penny; and several grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Josephine Brown; brother, Jay Fisher; and his parents.
