Dale Erwin Evins, age 52 of La Grande, died, Sunday, July 30, 2006 at the Grande Ronde Hospital. Viewing will be held on Friday, August 4, 2006 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lighthouse United Pentecostal Church in Island City.
Dale Erwin Evins was born on August 18, 1953, the son of Raymond and Evangeline (Kendall) Evins in Ontario, Oregon. As a child his family moved numerous times before settling in La Grande. Dale enlisted in the United States Navy where he served during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge he settled in Southern California where he played baseball for the San Diego Padres baseball organization during the early 1970's. He loved music and recorded numerous songs at the studio of Buck Owens in Bakersfield, California. It was shortly there after that Dale met and married Cyndi Habiger on June 22, 1986 in La Grande, together the couple lived in La Grande where Dale drove Log Trucks for most of his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and most of all love watching his two sons play baseball.
Survivors include his wife, Cyndi Evins of La Grande; daughter, Kacey Evins; sons, Trent Evins and Jeremei Evins all of La Grande; brother, Ray Lee Evins of Ontario, Oregon; sisters, Marla Nevill of Buckley, Washington, Nadine Pulse of Grand Ronde, Oregon and other relatives and friends. His parents, sisters, Kathy, Pam, Gayla, Arileen and one brother Andy all preceded him in death.
