Craig was born Nov. 23, 1953, to Milton and Frances Hooton in Salt Lake City, Utah. Craig graduated as valedictorian from Union High School. He chose to serve an LDS mission and was called to the Arizona, Tempe, mission.
After beginning his education at Brigham Young University, he transferred to Eastern Oregon State College where he earned his bachelor of science degree in accounting, studying to further his education and completed the testing to become a CPA.
Although his career spanned everything from hospital administration and business administration to self-employment, he finally found his true calling in becoming a teacher. Craig taught accounting, business and health care administration courses at Stevens-Henager College in Logan, Utah. Those who knew him say he shared in his students' successes and their challenges and loved the opportunity to offer a helping hand in any way he could.
Craig held several callings in the LDS church, but enjoyed his opportunities to serve with the youth the most. His love of teaching was felt at home where he was quick to help with homework or any other teaching opportunity that his four sons presented to him.
He loved the outdoors and loved to take his family camping, fishing and hunting as often as time would allow. His family's fondest memories are of simply sitting around a campfire and swapping stories all through the night.
Craig is survived by his wife, Tamra Hill Hooton; his mother, Frances Hooton Baxter; his sister, Judy Prawitt of Sandy, Utah; brother, Monte Hooton of Union; his step-sister, Colleen Langford of Union; and step-brother, Ferrel Baxter of Baker City; four sons, Jason, Michael, Nicholas and Casey; and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Milton Hooton; stepfather, Reynolds Baxter; and stepsister, Betty Dunham.
