Coulston "Wayne" Drummond

May 24, 1928 — December 15, 2008

Coulston "Wayne" Drummond, age 80, of La Grande, died Monday at his home. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street in La Grande. Committal and interment will follow at the Grandview Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Friday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Daniels~Knopp.

Wayne was born on May 24, 1928, the son of Chester Wilson and Shirley (Lickfold) Drummond in Rice, Washington. The family moved to La Grande in 1942 and he graduated from La Grande High School. On August 28, 1950 he married Betty Seebeck in La Grande. He served with the United States Army Signal Corp during the Korean War, 1950-1952, and was stationed in both South Carolina and California. He worked from Union Pacific Railroad as a train dispatcher for 17 years. During the year 1967 he and his wife operated a resort at Boulder Park. In 1968 he began working for the Borden Chemical Company, remaining with them until his retirement on December 30, 1990.

Wayne was a member of the American Legion, the Elks Lodge and the National Rifle Association. He loved home, family, firearms, hunting, fishing, gardening, music and dancing. He was one of the best story tellers around and will be fondly remembered for talking in the third person. He always enjoyed his Swisher Sweet Cigars as well as his Clamato Juice. He also loved going to the mountains with his 'toy', his 1970 Bronco.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Drummond of La Grande; daughter, Kathy Drummond of La Grande; grandchildren, Scarlett Drummond of La Grande, Jarod Drummond of Welches and Joshua Drummond of Maple Valley, Washington; great grandchildren, Anthony Drummond, Mason and Sydney Drummond and Zoey Drummond; sister, Darlene Seebeck of Spokane; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Betty Lou Bozzi and a son, Mark Drummond.
