Corinne Ansell, 83, of Klamath Falls and formerly of La Grande died Feb. 23. A celebration of life will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery, with the Rev. Norman Shrumm of the First Presbyterian Church officiating.
Mrs. Ansell was born Feb. 25, 1920, to Wilbur and Joyce Castile Brines in Starbuck, Wash. She graduated from high school in Wallowa County, and married Lewis Ansell in La Grande on Oct. 3, 1943. She attended Eastern Oregon University and studied music while working for the National Youth Administration. From 1942 to 1946, she taught fifth grade and worked as a fire lookout for the Forest Service during the summers while her husband served in World War II. She received her bachelor's degree from EOU in 1957, and moved to Klamath Falls in 1960. She taught physics at Sacred Heart Academy, and English and special education at Pelican Elementary until 1980.
She was a member of the NAACP, Eastern Star and the Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school and helped with the developmentally disabled. She was an accomplished classical pianist, poet and photographer, and enjoyed gardening and camping.
Survivors include her husband of Klamath Falls; children and their spouses, Marnie Ansell of Klamath Falls, and John and Laurie Ansell of Estacada; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Muriel Falkner of Elmira, and Joanne Hill of Grangeville, Idaho. A son, Jim Ansell, and a sister, Jeanne Kilburn, died earlier.
