Operations Specialist Chief Petty Officer Corey Dale Stonebrink (Ret.) U.S. Navy, 45, of Wallowa, died Sept. 21 at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise. A service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Lostine Presbyterian Church. A service with military honors will follow at Lostine Cemetery. Dinner for family and friends will be at the VFW Post 4307 in Enterprise.
Corey was born May 17, 1965, to Donald Stonebrink and Darlene Pearson in McMinnville. Corey attended school in Carlton for one year before moving to Wallowa where he completed the next 11 years of school and played high school sports. He graduated from Wallowa High School in 1983.
He joined the Navy in 1984 and spent the next 20 years and six days as Chief Operations Specialist serving in the Persian Gulf, Japan, Taiwan, Russia, South Africa and The Phillipines. The last ship he served on was the USS Blueridge out of Japan NCTSI Detachment 5, as Operations Specialist Chief assistant officer in charge.
Corey married April Li Tamondong July 29, 2002, in Japan. After retiring from the Navy, he was chief analyst manager of Odyssey Systems Consulting Group in San Diego where he was the head of Po-Sheng Taiwan Project. Corey then returned to Wallowa County to farm in the Leap area with his family.
Corey attended the Lostine Presbyterian Church while he lived in Wallowa County. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, singing karaoke and helping other people.
Survivors are parents, Donald and Charlotte Stonebrink; wife, April Stonebrink; sisters, Kathy and her husband, Rodger Benedict and Diana and her husband, Dennis Harvey; brothers, John Stonebrink and Melvin and his wife, Dena Stonebrink; step-sister, Bonnie and her husband, Elwayne Henderson; step-brother, Larry Long; and step-daughter, Jesibel and her husband, Nathan Truelove.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Darlene Hoffman; sister, Debbie; and brother, Gary.
