Cora Alice Neal

July 28, 1907 — March 16, 2003

Cora Alice Neal, age 95, of La Grande, died Sunday, March 16, 2003 at the Grande Ronde Hospital.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hillcrest Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Cora was born on July 28, 1907 at Fernie, B.C., Canada, the daughter of Charles W. and Nan Elizabeth (Roach) Workman. She was raised and schooled in Eureka, Montana. She nursed for three Indian Tribes, the Cherokees at Stillwell, Oklahoma on the Cherokee Strip, the Flatheads on the reservation in Montana and the Blackfoot on the reservation in Idaho. She moved to La Grande in 1940 from Pendleton and in 1965 she moved to Osborn, Idaho. In 1983 she returned to La Grande.

Cora was a member of the La Grande Eagles Auxiliary #259 and the Union Pacific Old Timers. She loved fishing, hunting, camping and traveling. She had visited in all of the United States except for the New England states. She traveled to Alaska every year from 1987 until 1997 to fish and to visit relatives and friends.

Survivors include her daughter, Dollene E. Lewis of Pinehurst, Idaho; son, Arthur A. Ladd of Moses Lake, Washington; nine grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by brothers, Ted, Sid, George, Charlie and Bennie, sisters, Ida, Katherin, Lula and Bessie and son, Robert Wagoner preceded her in death.
