Cleo E. Saling, age 93, of La Grande, passed away April 21, 2011 at Wildflower Lodge where she has lived the past four years. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center. Committal and interment will follow at the Elgin Cemetery.
Cleo was born on January 15, 1918 in Valier, Montana to William and Weltha Ingram. She had two brothers and two sisters, Ivan, Richard, Ruby and Ena Ingram, all who past away before her. Cleo married Laird Byers and had two children, Larry Byers of Vale, Oregon and Naomi Rogers of La Grande. They divorced and she married Frank Richmond, who preceded her in death, and they had two daughters, Lucy Wagoner and Susan Millering, both of Elgin. After his death she married Bud Shimanek and after his death she married Elvin Saling, who also preceded her in death. Cleo has many wonderful grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she loved.
Cleo was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, various crafts and gardening. She was very musical and played the piano and accordian. She played music at the Grange in Elgin many times.
Those who wish may make contributions in memory of Cleo to the GRH Hospice in care of Daniels~Knopp, 1502 7th Street in La Grande.
