Cleo J. Curry

June 10, 1928 — May 25, 2006

Cleo J. Curry, age 77 of La Grande, died Thursday, May 25, 2006 at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 5, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church. The family requests that dress be casual for the service. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Mrs. Curry was born on June 10, 1928, the daughter of Clifford and Hazel Iona (Robertson) Wade in Goldendale, Washington. She graduated from Goldendale High School with the class of 1946. After graduation Cleo moved to Portland to work in her chosen field of Accounting. In 1967 she accepted a position as Payroll Supervisor at Eastern Oregon University. On July 3, 1968 she married Warren Curry at the First Christian Church in La Grande.

Her position with EOU continued for 16 years and she then went to work as the bookkeeper for Blue Mountain Sports. After a few years with the firm she opted for retirement. It wasn't too long before the urge to be involved in bookkeeping/accounting surfaced and she was accepted to assist during the tax season with Seydel, Lewis, Moeller and Poe. After several years, health problems began to hint that retirement was a likely option. In April of 2002 she reluctantly submitted her resignation.

After retiring she kept busy with many craft projects in addition to volunteering with the Habitat for Humanity, the Grande Ronde Hospital Auxiliary, the Board of Trustees for Koinonia House as well as serving in several positions in the First Christian Church. In her earlier years she was involved with the Educational Secretaries Association, the Business and Professional Women, the Soroptimist Club, the La Grande Mavericks and the local American Red Cross.

Survivors include her husband, Warren Curry of La Grande; daughter, Toni Jabson of Monticello, Illinois; step-children, Bonnie Theabolt of Enterprise, Connie Bradley of Coos Bay, Polly Walker of Portland, Susan Deckard of Grants Pass and Scott Curry of Kennewick; seventeen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. Her parents, her step-father, Archie Averill and a half-sister, Virgie Olsen; preceded her in death.
