Clemma Aileen Hackler

March 6, 1925 — November 20, 2006

Clemma Aileen Hackler, 81, of La Grande, died, Monday, November 20, 2006 at her home. A memorial service will be held at later time. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Clemma Aileen Hackler was born on March 6, 1925, the daughter of William and Eunice (Hughes) Barber in Mankato, Kansas. At an early age her family moved to Steamboat Springs, Colorado for a short time before moving to Hermiston. She later married Clarence Hackler and the couple raised watermelons in Hermiston before moving to Weston, Oregon where they logged. Clemma cooked at numerous restaurants over the years and moved to La Grande where she continued cooking at Spout Springs ski lodge before her retirement. She enjoyed hand quilting, needle work, some painting, birthday parties but most of all loved crafts.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Judy and Lew Hunter of Priest River, Idaho, Bill and Linda Hackler of Bogue, Kansas, Ed Hackler and Gail and Keith Hescock of La Grande; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; brothers, James Barber of Milton-Freewater, Wayne Barber of Ukiah and Earl Barber of Burns and sister Ethel Geer of Hermiston and other relatives and friends. Her parents, husband Clarence Hackler and a sister, Opal Geer all preceded her in death.
