Clarence "Slim" Gerhart Evensen, 90, of La Grande, died Thursday, October 16th at his home.
A memorial gathering will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, October 25th at the La Grande Seventh Day Adventist Church, 2702 Adams Avenue. Lunch will be served at 1:00 p.m.
Slim was born November 12, 1917 in Esmond, North Dakota to Fred and Maria (Omlid) Evensen. He served in the U.S. Army as a tank mechanic during WWII. While working as a mule skinner near Helix, Oregon he met a car-hop at a cafe in Pendleton who on June 24, 1944 became his wife, Marian Bogan Evensen, they made La Grande there home. Slim worked as a mechanic for Lynch Motor Company and after 35 years retired in 1979.
Slim enjoyed farming, fishing, boating, horses, camping and bowling. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Marian of La Grande; children to include their spouses, Christine Beal of San Mateo, Calif., Fred and Janet Evensen of Hillsboro, Oregon, Gilbert Evensen of La Grande, Richard and Lynn Evensen of Demascus, Heidi Lampa of Payette, Idaho, Jim and Linda Dunlap of North Plains, Oregon, Maria Russell of La Grande; twelve grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one brother and five sisters.
Slim was a long time member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Friends and family who wish may make contributions in memory of Clarence "Slim" Evensen to the La Grande Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels~Knopp, Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center.
