Charlotte Francis Young, 97, of La Grande, died June 16 at Janet's Adult Foster Home. Her memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Loveland Funeral Chapel. Her final resting place will be in the family plot at Ione Cemetery.
Charlotte, the seventh of nine children in the family of John Henry and Minna Augusta Thun Bottemiller, was born Oct. 4, 1912, at Rock Creek where Charlotte's father owned a general store. A few years later, the family moved to Portland where Charlotte received her schooling.
On May 2, 1931, at Rock Creek, Charlotte married Walton Myers Young. After brief stays in Arlington and Echo, they moved to Hermiston where they raised their family. In 1957, Walton and Charlotte moved to Enterprise. After Walton died, she stayed and lived at their home independently until the last few years of her life.
Charlotte's favorite activities were, first and foremost, spending time with her family. Then came cooking, camping and fishing. She excelled at gardening and was a premier gardener who was always admired for her beautiful yard.
She was a charter member of Ladies Sewing Circle and Lion's Club, who awarded her the coveted Helen Keller Award. She was also active in AARP and she and Walton enjoyed their membership in the Little Swiss Rovers Good Sam RV Club.
Survivors are her sons, Walton A. Young of Pendleton and Russel R. Young and his wife, Barbara, of Roseville, Calif.; daughter, Phyllis Marie Young Williams and her husband, Elvin, of Island City; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walton M. Young, who died in 1992; her parents; and eight siblings, Laura Tetz, Wesley, William, Esther Bartlemay, Charles, Everett, Margaret Price Tetz and Lloyd. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Enterprise Lions Club.
