Charles "Chuck" Alexander Tarter

April 1, 1944 — November 12, 2010

Charles "Chuck" Alexander Tarter, 66, of Madisonville, Ky., and formerly of La Grande, died Nov. 12 at his home. A memorial service was held today at Grapevine Baptist Church with Brother Greg Gaddis officiating. A time of gathering with the family in the church fellowship hall followed.

Chuck was born April 1, 1944, to Vic and Phyllis Hancock Tarter in La Grande.

He was a veteran who served in the U.S. 101st Army Airborne 2nd/506 HQ Company at Fort Campbell, Ky. He was a retired conductor for the CSX Transportation Railroad. He attended Grapevine Baptist Church.

Chuck served as president of the Madisonville Lions Club, Zone 2 Chairman of Lions District 43-K, as well as Zone Chairman of District 43-K. He was named Cub Lion of the Year and Lion of the Year. Chuck was the Guiding Lion for the Madisonville Community College Lions Club.

He served as Exalted Ruler of the BPOE No. 738 and president of Hopkins County Bass Club. He was a volunteer room coordinator at the Glema Mahr Center for the Arts for several years.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Retha Duncan Tarter; daughter, Chamala Denny of Pocatello, Idaho; son, Scott and his wife, Hope Tarter, of Newbern, Tenn.; five grandchildren; and numerous
nieces and nephews in Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Nels Victor Tarter.
