Charles C. Scroggin

November 12, 1936 — April 18, 2009

Charles C. Scroggin, 72, of Alicel, died in his sleep April 18 in Miami, Fla. A celebration of life for Charlie Scroggin of Alicel, who died April 18 in Miami, Fla., will run from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Charlie's family home, 65301 Imbler Road. Turn east on Jansen Lane between Alicel and Imbler.

Charlie was born Nov. 12, 1936, and grew up in Union. He married Sue Kinnel from Alicel.

Charlie first farmed in Joseph before developing a career as an airline pilot with Pan American Airlines. When Pam Am sold its routes to United Airlines, Charlie transferred to United and served as lead captain and check pilot in United's transition to their newest Boeing aircraft, the 747-400.

In that role he conducted the proving flights for United's ultra-long range flights from

Los Angeles to Sydney, Australia.

Charlie is survived by his two sisters, Marilyn Brown of The Dalles and Jeanne Gilstrap of Cove; his two children, Jann Ruffo and Jeff Scroggin and his wife, Kathy, of Miami; and his three granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 50 years, Sue; and his friend of more than three decades, "Bill."
