Charles Gordon Pollard

October 23, 1933 — March 9, 2009

Charles Gordon Pollard, age 75, of La Grande, died Monday, March 9, 2009 at a Boise, Idaho hospital. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 13, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street in La Grande. Interment will follow at the Summerville Cemetery.

Mr. Pollard was born on October 23, 1933, the son of Clyde and Elizabeth (Archer) Pollard in Cleburne, Texas. After his mother died when he was two, he was raised by his grandparents. He attended Union High School, and then served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. After discharged from the Navy, he moved to Texas where he worked and retired from ABF Freightliners. In 1984, he moved to La Grande and married Evelyn Scott on October 17, 1984. He worked for the La Grande School District as a custodian (known and loved as "Mr. Chuck" by the students and faculty) and retired in 1999. Mr. Pollard was a licensed minister and loved the Lord. He was an avid reader, enjoyed fishing, and treasured spending time with children, especially, his grandchildren. He was also known for his homemade ice cream, and for dressing as Santa Claus at Christmas time. He will be remembered as a humble, cheerful and giving man and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn of La Grande; children and their spouses, Alicia and Randy Dyer, Chris and Cherie Pollard, all of Mesquite, Texas and Twila and Kambiz Ziaee of La Grande; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Marilyn Pollard of Spokane; brother, Richard Pollard of Portland; aunts, Jane Kennemer and Ann Sturges, both of Mesquite, Texas; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Douglas Pollard and grandson, Justin Pollard.
