Charles "Dewie" Durward Lovelace

April 1, 1928 — December 13, 2005

Charles "Dewie" Lovelace, 77, died December 13, 2005. A private family and friends get-together is planned later for a celebration of his life. Mr. Lovelace was born in Union April 1, 1928 to Jesse and Ada Bonita (jones) Lovelace. He attended school at Union and La Grande until his high school years when he attended school at Wallowa.

After his father's death, he worked on Roy and Ruth Baker's ranch in Cove, where he met and married his life-long love and partner, Carolyn (Rees) Lovelace. He worked for many years for the Owyhee Irrigation District as the pumping station manager at Dead Ox Pumps on the Slope in Ontario.

Horses were a big part of Mr. Lovelace's life and he raised and rode many of the best ones.

survivors include his wife, Carolyn; children, William Lovelace of Kent, Washington, Curt and Donna Lovelace of Ontario, Peggy and Tony Contreras of Philomath, Rilla Hanger of Monroe, Washington; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and sister, Donna Arlene and Earl Crow of Hermiston. He is also survived by a special sister-in-law and her husband, Don and Donna Sands of La Grande; special brother-in-law and his wife, Lewis and Caren Rees of Vancouver, Washington; a favorite uncle, Cecil Jones of Lexington; three half-sisters, Beverly and Stan Canham of Seattle, Barbara and Don Canham and Jan Scribner of Yakima, Washington; half-brother, Bob Garret of Yakima and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Lovelace was preceded in death by a son, Bryan M. Lovelace who died in 1996 in Montana.
