Cecil Edward Mecham, 91, of Summerville, died July 16 at his home. His funeral will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Loveland Funeral Chapel. Following the service will be a graveside service with full military honors at Summerville Cemetery and then a barbecue and reception at the Pleasant Grove Grange in Summerville.
Cecil was born June 26, 1919, to Gray Morris and Florence Geneva Mecham in Boise. He graduated from Boise High School and enlisted in the Navy, attending Military Metal Smithing School at Norfolk, Va. He was a veteran of World War II, proudly serving his country and flag in the Asian theater.
Cecil married Hazel Augusta Sheppard on May 11, 1942, in Perth, Western Australia. After the war they moved with son, LeRay, to San Francisco. After retiring, they moved to the Grande Ronde Valley where his best friend and hero, LeRay Wilson of Cove, came from.
Those who knew Cecil say he was a true patriot who loved the armed forces. He loved hunting, fishing and motorcycle drag racing. He enjoyed farming and metal and wood craft and helped many in the community.
Survivors are his wife; sons, LeRay Edward Mecham of Concord, Calif., Jerry Allen Mecham of Perth, Australia, and William James Mecham of San Carlos, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Viola Mecham, and brother, Cliff Mecham.
Memorial contributions may be made to any local veterans organizations. Flowers and cards may be sent to Cecil's wife in care of Loveland Funeral Chapel.
