Casper C. "Cap" Christensen, 92, former Lower Perry and La Grande resident, died June 13 in Boise. Graveside services with military honors will begin at 3 p.m. July 12 at Hillcrest Cemetery, 600 12th St. in La Grande. Anyone who knew Cap is welcome to attend.
He was born June 18, 1919, to Frank and Avis Christensen (Smith) in Crofton, Neb.
He worked in sales, as an oil rigger, in construction, as a saw mill worker and truck driver. He also worked for Safeway and Union Pacific Railroad. Those who knew him say Cap was a Jack of all trades.
Cap married Donnis Brooks in 1940 and had five children. Cap joined the Navy in 1942 and was later honorably discharged.
Cap spent the last 40 years in and around Emmett, Idaho, with his beloved June (Storey) Brown Christensen.
Cap was preceded in death by his daughters, Donnis Christensen and Georgia Secrest; brothers, George and Wayne; sisters, Della Rose and Buella; and his beloved June. Cap is survived by brother, Frank "Sonny"; sister, Leetha; his daughters, Avis Gertrude Kampe of Puyallup, Wash., and Diane Darlene Brown of Gearhart; his son, Casper Chris Christensen of Graham, Wash.; 17 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind June's children who took care of him even after losing their mother.
