Carroll W. Bruce

Carroll W. Bruce, 66, formerly of La Grande, died May 20. A memorial was held in Oklahoma. A local service may be planned, but details haven't been announced yet.

Carroll was born May 15, 1944, to George W. Bruce and Shirley Anne Bruce.

He graduated from Eastern Oregon University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in general studies in 1967 and again in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in education. He was a graduate of the Rhema Bible Training Center in Broken Arrow, Okla., in 1986 and a graduate of the Domata School of European Missions in 1996. He also held a certificate of ordination.

He served as a certified lay prayer partner at Oral Roberts University City of Faith in Tulsa, Okla., while attending Rhema Bible Training Center. He later served at the Prayer Tower for the Abundant Life Prayer Group.

He established the Abundant Life Church in La Grande where he also served as pastor. He later established the Spirit of Life Bible School.

He served as assistant chaplain of the Madera County Correctional Facility in California while acting as coordinator of Helps Ministry at Madera Believers Church. He was associate pastor of Love and Grace in Broken Arrow and served as part of the chaplain corps for David L. Moss Correction Facility in Tulsa. He was also prison coordinator for World Outreach Church at the facility.

He established the Spirit of Liberty Ministries in Oklahoma.

Carroll served in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1970.

Survivors are his wife, Laura, of Oklahoma; daughter, Laura Prince and her husband, Linwood, of Oklahoma; sons, Brent Salyer and his wife, Dove, and Kyle Bruce and his wife, Brenda, all of Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; his father of La Grande; brother, Pat Bruce and his wife, Nancy, of Union; and sister, Sally and her husband, Jim Stanley, of La Grande.

He was preceded in death by his mother in 1987.
