Carolyn G. "Boe" Bohnenkamp, 81, formerly of La Grande, died March 2 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
A private memorial service with friends and family will be held later this year at Wallowa Lake. A condolence book is available at Burns Mortuary in Pendleton during business hours.
Carolyn was born Feb. 6, 1927, to Lynne ad Nellie Bohnenkamp - members of a La Grande pioneer family. She graduated from La Grande High School and went on to Oregon State where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta and graduated in 1949.
She embarked on a teaching career that would take her from La Grande, to Baker, to Milton-Freewater, McKenzie Bridge, Beaverton and finally Pendleton, where she taught physical education at Hawthorne School to a couple of generations of children.
Intermixed with her years of teaching, Boe also served as the director of the Campfire Girls Camp at Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, for several summers.
She retired from teaching in 1989 and divided her time between her cabin at Wallowa Lake during the summers, her home in Pendleton and travelling south in her RV to visit friends and family.
Carolyn loved the outdoors and was an avid golfer and skier. She also enjoyed wood carving and had several exhibitions of her work.
She is survived by her niece, Lynn Kisselburgh Mottley of El Paso, Texas; several great-nephews; and steadfast friends, Jim and Carolyn Hendricks of Pendleton.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Grace Helen Bohnenkamp Kisselburgh; and nephew, Alexander J. Kisselburgh III.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Pendleton Buckaroo Booster Club in care of Burns Mortuary of Pendleton, P.O. Box 489, Pendleton, OR 97801.
