Carol Louise Genevieve Ransom

February 20, 1938 — June 13, 2010

Carol Louise Genevieve Ransom, 72, of La Grande, died June 13. A service and light lunch will be held Saturday at the Imbler Christian Church.

Carol was born Feb. 20, 1938, in Minneapolis, Minn.

As a young woman she loved to travel the U.S. and also lived in France where she had her first son. She was once married on horseback at the OK Corral in Miles City, Mont.

Carol was well-known as an avid animal lover, often rescuing, nurturing and feeding them. She was even known to bring injured deer and wildlife home, caring for them until they were ready to be set free and not a moment before. It was not uncommon to see a full grown deer on the back porch, taped and bandaged in her efforts to save it. Nothing broke her heart more than seeing an animal in pain.

Those who knew Carol say she had an overwhelming and unconditional love for her children and she was always overcome with joy from a visit with her children or grandchildren.

Those who knew Carol say she was a kind and generous woman, giving all she had if she thought there was another who could use it or needed it more.

In 1978, Carol met her soulmate, Paul Ransom. She left the city life for the country with the farmer and rancher out west. She was so happy to give her children a life in rural Oregon and grew to love Paul's children as her own. Carol and Paul spent many good times together, and Carol fulfilled her promise to Paul to care for him until the end.

Carol is survived by her children, Micheal Harrier of Ohio, Ernie Ransom of Boise, Taul Cunningham of La Grande, Amber and Kevin Johnson of Summerville, Micheal and Tina Cunningham of Germany, Jason and Laura Blade of Florida and Dana and Craig Horn of Minnesota; and many grandchildren.

Carol was preceded in death by her mother, Luicielle Dutel; sister, Frances Griffin; soulmate, Paul Ransom; and grandson, Joshua Horn.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Blue Mountain Humane Association, 3212 Highway 30, La Grande 97850.
