Carmen Diane West

July 31, 1938 — May 15, 2010

Carmen Diane West, 72, longtime Baker City resident, died May 15 in Baker City. A private family burial was held May 22 at the Summerville Cemetery.

Carmen was born July 31, 1938, at the airport in Baker City. She graduated high school in Mount Vernon. Carmen married Kenneth Wise before she graduated, and they made their home on the family ranch in Dayville.

Later they moved to Izee before moving to Baker in the mid '60s.

Carmen had an array of jobs ranging from bakery worker to accounting to motel and mini storage manager. She loved to travel and loved plants and flowers even though she was allergic to many things. She moved back to Baker City in the mid-1990s and moved into Settlers Park after she fell and fractured her hip.

Carmen is survived by her brother, Monty Thompson and his wife, Virginia, of La Grande; daughter, Kathy Bond of Myrtle Creek and Arlene King and her husband, Allen, of Myrtle Creek; son, David Wise and his wife, Sharon, of Gualala, Calif.; several grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
