Carl A. Cameron

April 24, 1935 — September 5, 2006

Carl A. Cameron, 71, McMinnville, died Sept. 5 at Emmanual Hospital in Portland. Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in McMinnville.

Mr. Cameron was born on April 24, 1935, in Pendleton. His father was a civil engineer who worked on the highway system, moving the family to many places throughout the West. Mr. Cameron attended La Grande Junior High and Senior High school, but graduted from Enterprise High School in 1954. At his 30th La Grande High School reunion, he reunited with Suzanne French Kofford. The couple married in 1985.

Mr. Cameron received his bachelor's degree from Art Centre School in Pasadena, Calif., and then went to work at Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn, Mich. He then went to Chrysler Corp. where he worked for 31 years. He was known as one of Chrysler's top 10 designers. he designed the original 1966 Dart, 1968 Dodge Charger and the 1970 Dodge Challenger, amoung others. He held 35 patents and led one of Chrysler's design teams.

After retiring, he continued designing by starting Cam Design. His last project was the design of his summer home at the beach in Manzanita. His passions included enjoying life with spontaneity, travling and meeting new people and time with his family.

Mr. Cameron is survived by his wife; his children, Erin and Cameron Stillman, Jeff and Evon Kern, Evet Schmidt, Elen Cameron, Carl and Laura Cameron, Edward Cameron, Kari and Peter Penkoff, Marc Kofford and Michael and Debra Kofford; seven grandchildren; a sister, Sally Foley; and a niece and nephew.
