Bonnie J. Zimmerman

April 30, 1936 — December 16, 2009

Bonnie J. Zimmerman, age 73, of Union, died December 16, 2009 in Boise, Idaho. At her request there will be no public funeral. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center.

Bonnie was born on April 30, 1936, the daughter of Fay Frances and Jeanne (McAllister) Tuning in Emerson, Nebraska. On December 28, 1957 she married Jack Dean Zimmerman. As a career Air Force wife, she traveled widely with her husband and family. She loved to cook for her family and friends, and was a talented seamstress. She graduated from St. John McNamarah School of Nursing in 1972, and worked as a registered nurse for many years. She loved her nursing career and dedicated much of her life in service to others.

Bonnie and Jack retired and moved to Union, Oregon in 1995. She shared Jack's dedication to the Union V.F.W. She made and donated knitted hats and scarves for those in need in Union. She loved to knit, crochet and needlepoint, and made Irish Aran Isle sweaters for each of her family members.

Survivors include her children, Joe Zimmerman of Meridian, Idaho, Margaret "Peg" Wallis of Burns, Oregon, and Debra Goosev of New Pine Creek, Oregon; sister, Margaret McAllister of Carlsbad, California; grandchildren, Brian Wallis-Taylor of La Grande, Jordan Wallis of La Grande, Jeffrey Waddell of Richland, Washington and Tanya Waddell of Seaside, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Jack Zimmerman.

Contributions can be made in her memory to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4060 in Union or to the Union Carnegie Library, in care of Daniels~Knopp, 1502 7th Street, La Grande.
