Bonnie L. (Byron) Hibbert, age 65, died Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at her home in La Grande.

A gathering of family and friends to remember Bonnie will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2022 from 2-4 p.m. at the Side A Brewing fire station museum in La Grande.

Bonnie was born in 1957 in La Grande, the daughter of Roy and June Byron. She spent most of her life in La Grande where she was raised and educated, graduating with the La Grande High School class of 1975. She later attended classes at Eastern Oregon University.

In 1981, Bonnie married Douglas Hibbert in Stateline, Nevada. After a few years living in Philomath, Oregon, Bonnie and Doug returned to La Grande to be closer to family and raise their two daughters and a son. Once her children were old enough, Bonnie worked as a secretary for the La Grande School District at Central Elementary School for 29 years until she retired in 2021. Bonnie was dedicated to the success and wellbeing of her children, and later, her beloved grandchildren.

Bonnie’s love of horses was a common thread that carried throughout her life. Bonnie’s family were among the founders of the Mavericks of which she continued membership for several years, including volunteer work as a secretary of the Mavericks’ horse shows.

Bonnie was a talented curator and decorator and took pride in creating welcoming interior spaces and events. She was an avid and experienced gardener with a specialty in annual flower growing and design.

Surviving relatives include her husband of 41 years, Doug, of La Grande; her children, Cassie Hibbert of La Grande, Matthew Hibbert (Chantell Cosner) of Spokane, Washington, and Samantha Escobar (Ryan Escobar) of La Grande; three grandchildren, Amelia, Lena, and Oscar; and a brother, Bob Byron (Barb Byron) of Benton City, Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Contributions in memory of Bonnie may be made to the Eastern Oregon Cancer Network, a non-profit organization that seeks to improve the health and well-being of cancer patients and survivors in Eastern Oregon. www.eocancernetwork.org.
