Beverly "Joan" “Mo” Elsberry, age 87, of La Grande, passed away on October 2, 2019, at a local care facility. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at the La Grande First Christian Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center. Those who wish, may make contributions, in her memory, to the First Christian Church or the American Legion Auxiliary.
Joan was born on December 13, 1931, the daughter of Harold and Joyce (Barney) Sheets, in Jamestown, North Dakota. She graduated from high school in Grand Forks, North Dakota, in 1949. On April 2, 1950, she married Marvin Elsberry in Grand Forks. They moved to Eugene, Oregon in 1953 and La Grande in 1959. She mended uniforms for the EOU Athletics Department but was best known for selling Avon products for almost 50 years, garnering many awards. She could be seen almost every day, making deliveries throughout the Grande Ronde Valley in her car, which was affectionately known as the “Mo Mobile” by her family. She was a 4-H leader and an active member of the First Christian Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, sewing, and bowling.
Survivors include; daughter, Barbara Malone of La Grande; daughter, Lori (Jim) Southard of Medical Springs; daughter, Janice (Greg) Musgrove of La Grande; son, Alan (Alita Arendell) Elsberry of Baker City; sisters, Carolyn Kranzler of Portland and Lois Burron of Utah; seven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by siblings; Judy Emery, Phyllis Sheets, Jim Sheets, Joe Bennett, and Terry Sheets; son-in-law, Steve Malone and husband, Marvin Elsberry.
