Betty Jean Olson

Betty Jean Olson, age 80, of Alicel, died January 15, 2009 at her home. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Summerville Cemetery Chapel. Committal and interment will follow at the Cemetery.

Mrs. Olson was born on August 23, 1928, the daughter of John George and Letha Loretta (Byer) Traverso, in La Grande. She attended schools in Lower Cove, Alicel and Imbler. On August 14, 1944 she married Vernal Olson in La Grande. They made their home and farmed in the Alicel area. She loved taking care of her family and the farm. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed going into the mountains and spending time at the family cabin up Indian Creek.

Survivors include her husband Vern Olson of Alicel; daughter, Diane Higley of La Grande; daughter and son-in-law, Verna and Steve Olsen of Island City; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Toni Olson of Canby; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Donald Traverso, sister, Dorothy Scott and son-in-law, David Higley.

Those who wish may make contributions in memory of Mrs. Olson to the Grande Ronde Hospital Foundation in care of Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street, La Grande.
