Betty Jean (Robeson) Jones

July 24, 1929 — October 3, 2023

Betty Jones of Island City, died Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at ther home at the age of 94.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Novermber 18, 2023 at  11:00 at the La Grande United Methodist Church.

Betty Jones of Island City,Betty Jean was born to Harry Charles & Evelyn Viola (Schurr) Robeson in the Sutter Hospital in Sacramento, California on July 24, 1929.  The family moved to Yakima, Washington in 1930 where her three siblings joined the family.  Don was born in April 1931, Beverly in November 1933,  and Marvin in January 1935.
They moved to Pendleton and later to Ashland where Betty met and married her husband Wayne Jones.  The couple made their home in Enterprise in 1950 where Betty worked as a bank teller.  Their family began with Susan who was born in July 1956 and was joined in 1958 by Sandra.  The family moved to La Grande in 1964, where Betty worked as a book keeper for the Truck Stop and Merle C. "Smitty" Smith.
Betty and Wayne were very active members of the United Methodist Church.  Betty was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, American Legion, Beta Theta, the La Grande Elks Lodge as well as many other organizations and activities.
After retiring she and Wayne traveled and hosted camp grounds all around Oregon and Washington.  They remained active in their church and helped out at the Senior Center for many years.
Surviving relatives include her daughter Sandra Cook of La Grande, grandchildren, Mykel Hansell, Dany Knight, Nikkole Hansell, Carmen Ingerson and William Cook, great grandchildren, Chevy Easterday, Joscelin Hafer and Cash Ingerson.
Besides her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband this past July 22nd, a daughter Susan Schultz on October 21, 2021, a daughter Sherry Lynn Jones, an infant grandson Clinton Wayne Cook and all of her siblings.
