Betty Jane Huntington

October 22, 1931 — March 11, 2009

Betty Jane Huntington, 77, of Union, died peacefully at her home March 11 after a brief battle with cancer.

Betty was born Oct. 22, 1931, the second of three children to James Loyd Dunn and Dolly Norris Dunn at Mitchell. She attended Oregon public schools at Kelly's Camp, Fossil, Spray, Hood River and Independence. She graduated high school at Mitchell in 1950. Shortly after in Antelope, she married Robert B. Huntington Sr. of Fossil.

She later completed some business courses at Bend toward her career in various office capacities. Most of her career was spent at Prineville where she raised her family. Betty was baptized with the United Methodist Church of Union.

She enjoyed genealogy, painting landscapes, beachcombing and treasure hunting with a metal detector. Her greatest pride was her family. Those who knew Betty say she was a courageous lady with a wonderful sense of humor and a strong sense of family.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; daughter, June Thornton of Redmond; two sons, Robert Jr. and Steve of Union; sister, Jessie Coleman of Red Bluff, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, "Bill" Melvin Dunn.
