Betty Jean Harris

January 27, 1930 — May 1, 2011

Betty Jean Harris, 81, of La Grande, died May 1 at her home with family at her side. At the request of the family, there will be no services.

Betty was born Jan. 27, 1930, at Tulsa, Okla., to Clinton and Nancy Elizabeth (Redfern) Stephens. She grew up in Grande Ronde Valley and graduated from Cove High School. She received a bookkeeping degree from Baker Business College and was employed at Cam Credit. Betty married Harry Harris. During the war, Betty was a Japanese plane spotter.

Fishing was something Betty loved. She enjoyed crafts, and, although she was color blind, her family says she made beautiful silk flower arrangements. Betty, known by her family as GG, was a woman they say had a huge heart. They say she was a person who helped raise everyone.

Betty is survived by her children and their spouses, Steve and Stephanie Harris, Glenn Harris and K.C. and Susie Harris, all of La Grande; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister and brother, Patsy Webb and Jack Stephens.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grande Ronde Hospice.
