Betty V. Faulkner, 85, of Olalla, WA, died March 3rd at Tacoma General Hospital. She was born in Pendleton, Oregon to Harry Clay Hays and Maude (Myers) Hays.
Betty graduated from Central Washington University with a B.S., Eastern Oregon University with an M.S., a degree in counseling and guideance from Lewis & Clark. She was a member of: Oregon Music Educators; National Music Educators; Master Teachers,Oregon, Soroptimist International, life member; Nu Phi Epsilon; Eastern Star; Penisula Orthopedic Guild #1; Betty Faulkner Guild (Port Orchard); Tacoma Orthopedic Association; Delta Kappa Gamma, and Beta Sigma Phi.
She taught music in the public schools for 43 years, the last seven years in the position as a high school guidance counselor, Betty taught in White Swan, Naches, Seattle, Pendleton, but the majority of her teaching career was in La Grande, Oregon. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas L. Faulkner. She is survived by daughter, Lynne Erickson, Son-in-law, John, of Olalla, granddaughter, Nicole of Yakima, grandson, Tom (TJ), granddaughter-in-law, MeiLing, and great-grandson, Alexander, of Port Orchard, WA, brother, Harry (Bud) Hays, Lilliwaup, WA and several nieces and nephews.
After Betty's husband, Tom, passed, she filled her hours with family and her involvement with Tacoma Orthopedic Assn., and the Peninsula Guild, Gig Harbor. She was installed as TOA President at the age of 80. It was at this time that a TOA Guild was started, in her name, in Port Orchard, by her daughter and friends. Betty spent her entire life making a difference in children's lives.
We would be remiss to omit her love of sports! All sports. Also, her love of attending the Pendleton Round-Up in the fall of each year. She has made the yell of "Let 'R' Buck"!! a tradition in our family. Betty's father played the snare drums in the "Horseback Band", which is a tradition of the Pendleton Round-Up.
Betty will be dearly missed by family and friends. Graveside services will be held Saturday, March 18th, Olney Cemetery in Pendleton, Oregon at 11 a.m. Celebration of Betty's life will be held on April 1st, 11 a.m., at The Inn at Gig Harbor, Gig Harbor, WA. Memorial donation: Tacoma Orthopedic Assn. Mary Bridge Children's Hospital and Clinic, Soroptimist International of Port Orchard "Foundation".
