Betty Lou End

January 7, 1925 — May 18, 2011

Betty Lou End, 86, of La Grande, died May 18, 2011 at the Grande Ronde Hospital. There will be a graveside memorial service at Hillcrest Cemetery Saturday, May 21 2011 at 11:00 am with the First Presbyterian Church Pastor Laura Hudson officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center.

Betty was born January 7, 1925 in Portland Oregon. Dr. Ray and Louise (Griffith) Murphy of La Grande, OR adopted her shortly after her birth. As a war bride she married Carl Giltner and they had one child.

In 1947 she married Earl E. Johnson and they had 2 children. Betty and Earl enjoyed their children and grandchildren taking them fishing and camping especially summer vacations at Wallowa Lake. Early 1960's they fulfilled their dream of living on their acreage in Fruitdale. She always had a big garden to share with family and friends and gladiolas on the corner on Fruitdale Lane.

After Earl passed away she married Charles "Dick" End in 1989. They loved fishing on the Snake River and spending the summers camping in their 5th wheel at Richland.

Betty worked as a dental assistant in her father's office for many years and later as a clerk at Glass Drug.

Betty never knew a stranger as she had lived in La Grande all her life. She could not walk down the street without stopping multiple times just to chat. Over the years she belonged to numerous organizations such as the American Legion Aux., Railroad Jr Old Timers, Beta Sigma PHI. She loved to crochet and made afghans for all her grandchildren.

One of the highlights of her life was the opportunity to meet her birthmother. Betty was 79 years old and her mother was 98 years old. She was also able to meet other members of her family during her two visits. During the past 2 years Betty has made many new friends while living at Wildflower Lodge.

Betty is survived by her children Carlene & Wayne Crampton, Nancy Keeling, Dennis & Ruth Johnson, and step son Kirk and Mikki End; Grandchildren: Gregg Crampton, Bryan and Bea Crampton, Jacque Rasmussen, Stacy & Neal Olson, Sean & Crystal Keeling, Jeff Johnson, Rod and Patty Johnson, Brian End, Angie Smith, Jake End, Amanda End, Marcy Cunningham, Samantha Miller. She also had 23 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents Dr. Ray and Louise Murphy, her birth mother, brother, Jack Murphy, husband Carl Giltner, Earl Johnson, and Charles "Dick End".
