OBITUARY FOR BETTIE JEAN NEEDHAM

Bettie Jean Needham, 83, formerly of Cove, died Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at an adult foster care home in La Grande.

A service will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 18 at the Cove Cemetery. Viewing will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Daniels~Knopp, Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 Seventh Street, La Grande.

Mrs. Needham was born on September 23, 1925 in Prineville to Art and Alice (Becker) Davis. Her father worked as a sheep shearer and consequently they lived in Prairie City, Telocaset and High Valley before settling in Cove. Mrs. Needham received her education in Cove where she met Clifford "Bill" Needham. On August 2, 1942 they were married when Bettie was nearly 17 years old. After 43 years of marriage Bill preceded her in death in 1986.

Mrs. Needham enjoyed playing pinochle, canning and flower gardening but mostly she enjoyed her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Jerry and Darlene Needham of Burns, Judy and Kevin Foster of Imbler, Joyce and Ron Olsen of Elgin; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a brother Larry Hoffelmeyer of Burns and other relatives and friends. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her sisters, Ileen Millman and Mary Nelson.
