Bette Lou Parker

August 21, 1942 — March 2, 2011

Bette Lou Parker, 68, of La Grande, died March 2 at Grande Ronde Hospital. Visitation will run from 5 to 7 tonight at Loveland Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Loveland Funeral Chapel, followed by a graveside service at Island City Cemetery. A celebration of life and potluck will follow at La Grande Country Club.

Bette was born Aug. 21, 1942, to Ewing and Josephine Chambers in Clinton, Ind. She spent her childhood in Indiana, Michigan and California. She graduated from Fontana High School in Fontana, Calif., in 1960. A few years after graduation, Bette enlisted in the Army and was eventually stationed in Yuma, Ariz.,, where she met Robert E. Parker.

Bob and Bette married Nov. 10, 1962, in Yuma. The couple moved to La Grande to work and raise their family. They loved camping and the outdoors.

Bette loved to be involved with her son, Tracy, and daughter, Jolynne. She often shared her pride in their scholastic, sports and vocational achievements.

Bette loved to be out and around people whenever possible. She was a past president of the La Grande Emblem Club, which kept her busy for many years. Bette loved to play golf and was involved with many country club functions. She spent a few years volunteering at Grande Ronde Hospital.

Later in life she found great joy in spending time with and supporting her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Robert; daughter, Jolynne and her husband, John Spencer; son, Tracy and his wife, Robin; and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
