Bethel Mae Gruis

Bethel Mae Gruis, 84, of La Grande, died Jan. 22 at a local care center. A celebration of life will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Summerville Cemetery Chapel. Loveland Funeral Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Bethel was born March 31, 1925, to Roy Emery and Eva (Bay) Vandermulen in

La Grande. She was raised and educated in La Grande. She loved embroidery, sewing, reading, gardening and cooking and was a social person. She loved visiting with friends, and was close with her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Cassie Waibel of La Grande; sister, Dorothy Pound of La Grande; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Gruis, and her parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blue Mountain Humane Association, 3212 Highway 30, La Grande 97850.
